Fancy going head-to-head with one of the world’s most infamous monsters? Now’s your turn to go green, as you go into battle, dwarfing the cities below you.
Basic gameplay in Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee is something akin to free-range arcade fighting, where you use a wealth of moves to dispatch your foes in a large arena. Much like the old flicks where little guys dressed up in large tacky rubber costumes and busted out some kung fu moves that were physically impossible for monsters that size, the fighters here can pull off kicks, punches, jumps, combos and projectile weapons. Of course, seeing as this is all based on monster B-movie goodness, the surrounding bits of cityscape can be picked up and used in the assault. See that gas tanker truck over there? Toss it at Mothra. Go on! What about that cargo ship? Yeah, smash him up good with that!
With most of the scenery in-game fully destructible, you’ll find it hard not to cripple some of the cities you’re supposed to be protecting in the melee. But that’s all part of the fun, especially as there are also powerups littered around to collect and increase the devastation quotient. Players have to be a bit wary, however, as the military is also on hand to provide a pounding to the monster who is causing the most collateral damage. But that doesn’t mean you can’t pick your opponent up and dash him into some rubble, forcing the army to take revenge on your fallen adversary.
