The increasingly unbelieveable antics of arcade sports games reaches a zany zenith with this three-on-three kickfest. Fútbol fanatics may cringe, but anyone else capable of cracking a smile will revel in Sega's hilarious hash of the world's most popular team sport.
Sega was making games when today's soccer stars were in diapers. With franchises like Sonic and Ecco the Dolphin, the company has shown again and again that it clearly knows what works in a video game.
To ensure there's never a dull moment, Sega halved the size of the field and reduced the squads to three players, plus a CPU-controlled goalie. One glance at a player's cartoony physique tells you what their strengths and weaknesses are -- for example, each team's finessing female is invariably a deft passer but a feeble striker. Other developers blab about pick-up-and-play, but here Sega delivers the goods, big-time.
