James Sunderland's wife Mary has been dead for three years - or so he thought. After receiving a letter from her asking him to meet her in their favourite place, Silent Hill, James travels there to find out how she's managed to get the postal service to deliver first-class mail from beyond the grave.
Once there he meets Maria, a strange blonde woman who bears a remarkable resemblance to Mary. As he discovers more and more about the evil happenings in the town it seems that he is getting closer to finding out what really happened to his wife. But is that the real reason he's been called to Silent Hill or is there a darker reason for his visit?
